Privacy statement

Introduction

The Department of Finance seeks to adhere to the Guidelines for Federal and ACT Government World Wide Websites developed by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. In particular Finance seeks to comply with the Information Privacy Principles (see Glossary below) in the Privacy Act 1988 (a copy of the Act is available at COMLAW the legal information retrieval system owned by the Attorney General's Department).

Information collected

Your email address

Finance will only have your email address in the event that you send a message by email and request that we contact via that email. If you do not want a response please indicate that in your email. Responses via the Have Your Say tab are not identifiable by email unless the email address is included.

Your email address will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and will not be added to any mailing lists without your prior consent which Finance will seek by way of a specific request in writing. Finance will not use or disclose your email address for any other purpose, without your prior written consent.

Clickstream data

When you visit this website, our Internet servers record that a visit was made and logs the following information for statistical purposes:

  • the user's server address (not email);
  • the user's top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc);
  • the date and time of the visit to the site;
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded;
  • the previous site visited; and
  • the type of browser used.

No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the Internet Service Provider's logs.

Google Analytics

In addition to web server logs, this website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. ("Google"). Reports obtained from Google Analytics are used to help improve the efficiency and usability of this website.
